International Business Major Guide

With a degree in International Business, you’ll be ready to collaborate across cultures, customs, time zones, and languages to achieve your goals.

You’ll get a well-rounded business education with courses like accounting, finance, marketing, business law and macroeconomics — and you’ll learn the nuances of management, marketing and trade in an international context. Specialize in the politics and government of Latin America, Asia or Europe, and develop language fluency so you can communicate across cultures. Develop a deep understanding of corporate social responsibility, and learn how business can make a difference.

Study or intern abroad at one of St. Edward’s 24 partner universities or at one of nearly 1,000 other programs in more than 90 countries. You’ll graduate prepared to work for a global company, international government, nongovernmental organization — or any career that requires a global mindset, business acumen and a spirit of adventure.

The Classroom and Beyond

As an International Business major, you’ll have the chance to study or intern abroad, applying your language skills and learning how business works in an international context. Closer to home, you’ll take classes that engage you with active learning, and you’ll have the opportunity to intern at an international organization based in Austin.

Experiential Education 

In Social Responsibility of Business, you’ll participate in a service activity in the community and write a paper about the experience. You’ll also work in a team to create a new product or service for a company that will meet a social need for an underserved community.

In Organizational Behavior and Leading Teams, students work in teams to analyze an organization, seeing organizational behavior come alive. Students recently worked with Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, a wilderness resort in Michigan, and with Austin businesses and nonprofits.

As an International Business major, you’ll have the opportunity to intern abroad or with a transnational organization based in the United States. In addition, International Business majors recently have completed internships at these organizations:

  • Aesthetic Medical Educators Training
  • Yardbird Outside, an Austin-area company that makes outdoor-living products for kids and families

The Bill Munday School of Business has partnerships with Austin organizations that will immerse you in the city’s exciting startup culture:

  • Capital Factory, an incubator, coworking space and event center for all things entrepreneurial
  • Austin Startup Crawl, a showcase of technology and entrepreneurship at multiple downtown locations during the South by Southwest Conference and Festivals
  • Impact Hub Austin, which offers programs blending business and social good

Sharpen your language skills, immerse yourself in a new culture and learn how business works by studying or interning abroad. Choose from among St. Edward’s 24 partner universities or nearly 1,000 other programs in more than 90 countries. 

Student Organizations

Delta Sigma Pi is the coed business fraternity that is both a professional and social club. In recent semesters members have attended a panel presentation about digital marketing and a talk about real estate investment careers; traveled to a leadership conference in Kansas City; networked at a happy hour with alumni; and made sandwiches for people living on the street.

Develop your startup ideas with the help of a professional mentor and practice pitching them at 3-Day Startup, the iChallenge Pitch Competition and the Business Plan Pitch Competition.
